A disused bowling alley in Christchurch Park could become the new home of a dog daycare log cabin.
A plan filed by The Dogs Squad is seeking permission to build a wooden building on top of the old bowling green to provide educational space for canine daycare volunteers.
“We are growing, which is great,” said Lisa Correll, who runs the organization.
“We are full of dogs and we hope to see more dogs when the weather improves. That’s why we introduced this application.
“The cabins provide space for humans as well as space for dogs. Space.
“It’s been very beneficial for our members, dogs and humans.”
Dog day care supports, operates and learns to care for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and those suffering from mental health issues.
In the two-year business, Lisa and her team were “overwhelmed by the number of adults with additional needs who openly voiced their mental health differences” after spending a day in the field.
The Dogs Squad is seeking funding for the cabin, but the application must first be approved by the Ipswich Borough Council.
Documents filed on the planning portal state that the design is “visually appropriate, blends in with the existing structure, and does not exceed height.”
The colors and additional decorations are also in keeping with the nearby Christchurch Park buildings.
Commenting on the planning process, Lisa said: “We understand and are aware that Christchurch Park is a nature reserve and a very beautiful space.
“I love this place and really hope our facilities and buildings blend in with the park, but right now it’s just a waiting game.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better job in a better environment with weather like this week.”
