st. George —When a group of dog-loving like-minded people witness an overcrowded shelter, they turn their mission into an official non-profit rescue operation to care for, protect and advocate for dogs in need. I made it my goal.

Kyla Kane, New Start K9’s volunteer marketing coordinator, told St. George News: “There are so many animals and we don’t have enough money and resources. increase.”
Foster-based 501(c)3 nonprofit New Start K9 to launch in 2021 We have a vision of a life free of suffering and pain for all dogs. They support animal shelters in both Washington County and rural New Mexico, provide rescue transportation, and place dogs in foster care until they find their forever homes.
New Start K9 Volunteer Adoption Coordinator Josey Adams said: “If we didn’t love it, we wouldn’t do it. Especially when you see them have new families and lives and remember where they came from.” , very rewarding. And they will always remember you.”
Adams, who has four dogs and four children, said her children love having foster dogs inside and outside the home. By raising yourself, your dog will become more social, ready to start training, and get along better with another family member.

Volunteer technology coordinator Brandon Ferrell says the unique foster program gives you the chance to bring interested dogs into your own home on a trial basis. The organization offers everything you need to start caring for your dog, including free dog food, kennels, and dog beds.
“Nurture can be a big stepping stone,” said Ferrell. “They usually end up hiring them later, but we want them to know it’s a good fit. That’s how they fully adopt and commit.”
To make sure the dog goes to the best possible home, Adams recommends calling referrers, conducting home checks, and meeting and greeting other dogs and children in the home. , said it is scrutinizing potential adoptive families. If your dog is not doing well for any reason, Rescuers will happily return the dog to their care. Once adopted, it also allows owners to look after their dogs through foster homes while on vacation.
“That’s our goal. A forever home,” says Adams. “We want them to know that this is a huge responsibility and we don’t want the dog to feel abandoned again. We want to make sure it’s good for adopters and dogs too.”

New Start K9 is currently foster-based with the goal of opening a facility in the future, so Adams said only dogs that are healthy and able to move into a home with other dogs, children and cats will be accepted. They will work with other rescue groups in the area to assist reactive dogs and dogs in need of medical services.
The number of volunteers in the organization fluctuates due to a mix of static and foster volunteers. They need volunteers ranging from foster parents to fundraisers to administrators.
“We are always looking for people who want to volunteer with us,” said Ferrell. “Events, computer side, financial side, basically anything you want to try, volunteer to help us, we’re always here to help.”
New Start K9 needs temporary foster care. According to Adams, it’s as easy as bringing your dog over the holidays or weekends.
Considering the lifestyle of each foster parent, we will give it to someone who seems to be a good fit for you. All foster parents receive the supplies they need to care for their dogs, so there are no out-of-pocket costs. You will also need dog food, beds, treats, blankets and other supplies.
