Robin was found in an Oklahoma shelter as a young pup after being picked up as a stray. Like many adorable shelter pups, Robin soon found a home. But just six months later, he was found wandering the streets of Oklahoma as a stray once more..
One night, while trying to jump over the walls of his kennel, Robin suffered an unfortunate accident. Somehow, her leg got caught on top of her kennel door. They found him the next morning, exhausted, covered in blood, with his front paw pinned to the kennel wall. The accident left Robin’s leg badly broken, and due to a lack of resources, Robin endured the pain of his broken leg without medical attention for two weeks.
The shelter staff knew that Robin was suffering. With few options, they decided to turn to a local rescue center, Friends with Four Paws, for help. Rescuers wasted no time in bringing Robin in and ensuring that her broken leg was cared for as soon as possible.
Robin’s front leg suffered a break that was too close to the joint to nail, and as a result, the poor pup had to endure a recovery that took several months. His recovery plan required a lot of attention from his new rescuer friends. He needed weekly splint changes, laser therapy and lots and lots of rest in his cage to save his leg. It was a tall order, but Friends with Four Paws was determined to fight for Robin.
After weeks of strict medical care and TLC, Robin’s cast was removed, but it wasn’t the end of her bad luck. Several weeks later, a piece of bone came loose from the very leg that she had spent so much time trying to heal. However, Friends with Four Paws did not give up on him.
During her recovery, Robin was able to feel comfortable in the home of a foster carer. His stay was made even more welcoming with the help of Greater Good Charities’ GOODS program, which provided him with canes, dental food, toys and lick mats to keep him entertained while he recovered. The GOODS program also helped provide food and treats for Robin and the other Friends with Four Paws pets.
Food, toys, and treats may not seem like much, but for a rescuer who refuses to turn down tough cases like Robin’s, these items can be a godsend. The friends at Four Paws knew that fostering an energetic dog with a broken leg would take a heavy toll on their resources. And when his leg was broken again, they were able to continue to care for him until he was completely healed.
“One of the things that we do to try to help the community is take care of medical cases that may not have much of a chance without a rescue. Many of the cases we receive can result in high medical bills. Not having to spend an excessive amount of funds on supplies provided through the GOODS Program allows us the availability to continue directing funds toward medical bills. It really allows us to help those in need!”
