A portion of each sale through the iHeartDogs store is donated to Greater Good Charities, which helps support various charity programs. Thanks to customers like you, happy endings like the one below are possible.

Auggie’s story begins at the end of a rope. Being an “outside dog,” he didn’t know much of the world beyond the Oklahoma driveway where he was tied to a post day after day. He was careless in every sense of the word. One day, due to desperate hunger, Auggie chewed his rope and ran for help.

Auggie found his way to a neighbor’s house, and as soon as they saw him, they were horrified by the condition he was in. The poor pup was skin and bones, his ribs sticking out so far you could count each one. . When they learned that Auggie’s mother was still in the driveway, tied to the same carport under the same conditions, they called authorities to help free the two dogs. Brave little Auggie saved himself and his mother from him that day.

Oklahoma authorities contacted Route 66 Pet Rescue, and when rescuers saw the pup living its life in a driveway, they knew they had to help.

“Once we saw poor Auggie’s condition, we knew we couldn’t just leave him there.”

Although he no longer lives a difficult life in the great outdoors, the transition to the rescue was difficult for Auggie. He suffered a bout of depression shortly after his arrival and shut down. The rescuers were concerned for his well-being and did what they could to cheer him up. He was introduced to a fluffy Great Pyrenees mix named Lacey, who was able to lift his spirits and bring him back to himself. Since then, the two have been inseparable and Auggie has proven to be a bright, happy and playful boy.

Route 66 Pet Rescue has given Auggie all the love and care, and food, that he’s been missing! Thanks to contributions of food and supplies from the Greater Good Charities GOODS program, Route 66 was able to feed Auggie a diet that would support healthy weight gain.

No longer on a leash, Auggie was able to live the life of a free and happy pup, playing with his shelter mates and soaking up all the attention the staff has to provide!

Auggie is fat and happy. He has become a close couple with Lacey and never has to worry about where his next meal is coming from.”

Today, Auggie is still in the care of Route 66 Pet Rescue, patiently waiting for his forever home with his best friend, Lacey. Route 66 is dedicated to finding them a home where they can live together happily ever after.

Auggie’s story is just one of many happening across the country, and Greater Good Charities’ GOODS program tries to help rescues like Route 66 Pet Rescue so everyone has a happy ending, and you can help. When you buy items like the ones below from the iHeartDogs store for yourself or your friends, furry or not, you’re supporting hard-working rescues through the GOODS program!

“Getting such high-quality food for dogs like Auggie, whose ribs were on display, helps his body heal. With food and treats, we can keep all of our dogs healthy and use our funds to research and maintain their physical and mental conditions.”
